Privacy Policy

Collegeboard.AI is a college-admissions assistant app that supports chat-based guidance and optional document/image uploads (for OCR-based extraction). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information we collect

  • Account information: name, email, and password (for login/signup).
  • Authentication tokens: a “remember token” used to keep you signed in.
  • Chat content: messages you send and the assistant responses stored to provide conversation history.
  • Uploads (optional): images you upload for OCR processing (and derived extracted text).
  • Usage & technical data: basic request logs, timestamps, and error diagnostics for reliability and security.

How we use information

  • Provide core features (login, chat, saved items, OCR upload).
  • Improve reliability (debugging, performance monitoring, abuse prevention).
  • Maintain security (authentication, fraud and misuse detection).

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We may share limited data only to provide the service:

  • AI processing: chat prompts and related context may be sent to an AI model provider through our server to generate responses.
  • External data sources: the app may query public sources such as:
    • U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard API (for college data).
    • Wikipedia APIs (for public college summaries and images).
  • Legal & safety: if required by law or to protect users and the service from abuse.

Data retention

  • We retain account data while your account is active.
  • Chat history and uploads are retained to provide features (history, saved content) until you delete them or delete your account.
  • We may retain limited logs for security and operational purposes for a reasonable period.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to reduce risk.

Your choices

  • You can choose not to upload images; OCR is optional.
  • You can request deletion of your account and associated data (see “Data Deletion”).

Children’s privacy

Collegeboard.AI is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal data, contact us to request deletion.
